Doerkson says Conservatives would legislate to prevent overlapping provincial and municipal campaigns

In the B.C. election campaign, Lorne Doerkson says his party would pass legislation to stop a provincial election from being held within 60 days of municipal election dates.

The Story

The leaders from all three major parties in the B.C. election campaign are preparing for their only televised debate ahead of the Oct. 24 vote and, according to the campaign update, do not have other public appearances scheduled.

Interim B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson said he is promising legislation to prevent provincial and municipal election campaigns from overlapping if elected. In a message posted on social media, Doerkson said his party would pass legislation to prohibit a provincial election within 60 days of municipal election dates.

The provincial election called by B.C. NDP leader David Eby is set to be held one week after municipal elections in B.C. on Oct. 17.

CentreBC leader Elenore Sturko said her party would double the BC Builds program to create 20,000 below-market homes by 2031 if elected. The party’s housing platform, released Wednesday morning, calls for standardized provincial housing approvals by January 2028, and it would also boost the annual renters’ tax credit to $600.

The update said neither Sturko nor OneBC interim leader Dallas Brodie are participating in the televised leaders debate on the campaign schedule.
