Higgins and McLean to join Canucks for Kids Fund charity game at Fan Fest with alumni, youth tickets

Canucks ambassadors Chris Higgins and Kirk McLean will join the Canucks for Kids Fund charity hockey game during Fan Fest at Rogers Arena.

The Story

Two Vancouver Canucks alumni, Chris Higgins and Kirk McLean, are set to take part in a charity hockey game connected to Fan Fest at Rogers Arena in support of the Canucks for Kids Fund.

McLean said he’s looking forward to reconnecting with teammates and the fanbase during charity games. He noted the alumni group does charitable work across the province and said staging the event at Rogers Arena adds to the significance.

Higgins, who remains involved in community programming through the Canucks Autism Network and Special Olympics BC, said the charity game is another way to give back to groups that supported him during his playing days. He described his role as a Canucks for Kids Fund ambassador.

The event is scheduled as a tournament featuring Canucks alumni and other participants. The format allows Higgins to play any position except goaltending, while McLean said he expects to lean into a more familiar style within the alumni group.

Organizers said the game will also include a draft. Doors open at 6 p.m. PT. Tickets are listed as free for children under 12 and $5 for everyone else, with proceeds going to the Canucks for Kids Fund. A $5 menu offering beer, hot dogs, popcorn and pizza will also be available.

Fan Fest runs September 24 to 26 at Rogers Arena. On Thursday, September 24, the Canucks play the Edmonton Oilers in a preseason game at 6 p.m. PT, with players arriving on the Blue Carpet between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to welcome fans and take photos.

On Friday, September 25, Fan Fest includes an open practice at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Canucks’ Meet the Team event for full season ticket members. The Canucks for Kids Fund Charity Hockey Game is scheduled for that day.

On Saturday, September 26, the Canucks face the Seattle Kraken in preseason action at 4 p.m. PT. The schedule also lists a career networking event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a ticket to the preseason game included, along with fan activities on RBC Landing—formerly North Plaza—and a second Blue Carpet for fans between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
