Britannia Village returns for second holiday lights season with tree lighting, markets and crafts

Britannia Village’s second annual holiday lights display begins with a tree-lighting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 27, alongside family activities and weekend markets.

The Story

Britannia Village is preparing its second annual festive lights display, kicking off with a tree-lighting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 27.

The evening will feature family-friendly activities including carollers, kids’ crafts, a holiday makers’ market, and an appearance by the Britannia Beach Fire Department’s vintage fire truck.

The holiday makers’ markets will run on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., from Nov. 27 until Dec. 20.

Marketing and events coordinator Meryl Lavender said the village is “trying to make ourselves a holiday destination.” She added that people driving to and from Whistler can also stop in for holiday shopping and activities at local businesses.

For the tree-lighting ceremony, the countdown is set for 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 in front of Autostrada Oyster Bar & Grill.

Lavender said the event will include a larger tree in the pavilion in front of Autostrada and roughly doubled the number of lights compared with last year, and that there is parking available in the village for travellers on the Sea to Sky Highway.
