Zeds Dead says an intense fan incident during its 2014 Commodore Ballroom show in Vancouver left a lasting impression as the duo prepares to play the Freedom Mobile Arch on Sept. 26.
The Story
Zeds Dead has shared details of a disruptive moment from its last independent Vancouver show in 2014, ahead of a Sept. 26 performance at the Freedom Mobile Arch.
The duo says the incident happened during a set at the Commodore Ballroom, when a man rushed the stage and began pulling apart an LED wall surrounding the DJ booth.
In comments included with the show preview, Zachary Rapp-Rovan—who performs as Hooks—said, “A fan got real crazy and jumped up on stage and tried to destroy our production,” adding that the fan showed “superhuman strength.”
Dylan Mamid, who performs as DC, said the man tried to “pull our LED wall down,” and that he had to be restrained by multiple people.
Mamid said he could still visualize the moment, saying, “His face is still like burned into my mind, actually,” and that they “sort of like saw him coming from far away.”
Both also said security tried to restrain the fan, but that they “couldn’t,” and the duo indicated the fan did not make contact with them.
Mamid said artists build elaborate sets in part to protect themselves from these kinds of incidents.
Along with the 2014 Commodore Ballroom reference, the preview places the upcoming show as the pair’s Saturday Sept. 26 date at the Freedom Mobile Arch in Vancouver at 6 p.m., with tickets listed at $46.74 to $118.70.
Zeds Dead’s upcoming show is described as its biggest production on tour, featuring a set piece and visuals built as a cohesive, fully realized vision.
The preview says the set will focus on more recent material while still representing the duo’s 17-plus-year career, including the 2009 single “Journey of a Lifetime,” and reworked or mashed versions of older songs with new tracks.
The preview also says Mamid does not have a specific pre-show ritual, but that he feels he steps into his alter ego when he suits up.
After the Sept. 26 show, Mamid said he plans to stay in B.C. longer, including visiting friends in Squamish and going to Whistler for a few days of hiking.
