Russian strikes killed four people across Ukraine on Saturday, while Ukrainian long-range drones continued to hit oil refineries and industrial sites, according to Ukrainian officials and statements from Moscow’s defence ministry.
In Ukraine, two women died in Zaporizhzhia after they were trapped beneath rubble in the aftermath of strikes on residential housing, the city’s regional military administration said. A separate attack on the city of Sumy also killed two people, local officials said.
Russian drones also hit multiple districts of the capital, Kyiv, injuring four people and damaging residential and office buildings, according to officials. The Russian defence ministry said the attack damaged a data centre supporting mobile internet services and Starlink satellite communications.
Elsewhere, a Russian drone strike in the Kyiv region triggered a fire at a warehouse in the Boryspil district, leaving two people injured overnight, officials said.
Ukrainian targeting of Russian energy infrastructure continued in parallel. Ukraine said it damaged the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, after a drone attack there killed three people and wounded two, regional officials reported. The regional governor, Veniamin Kondratyev, said the strike sparked fires at two industrial sites but did not provide further details.
In the Russian-occupied portion of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, Moscow-installed officials said Ukrainian attacks killed three people overnight, according to Russian state media.
The intensified exchange of strikes came alongside new remarks from the United States’ president after his meeting with Zelenskyy at the United Nations General Assembly. Trump said he hoped Zelenskyy would “settle” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, framing the discussion as a path to ending the war.
Trump said the Ukrainian and Russian leaders were “going along” and suggested that a deal could happen before winter, adding, “I want him to settle with Putin, and I want Putin to settle with him.”
Zelenskyy, for his part, used Saturday’s message to urge stronger international responses to what he described as Russia’s escalating attacks. He wrote that it was essential partners not “forget” that Russia is escalating “every single day,” and that harsher responses are needed to stop the conflict from spreading further.
In a separate UN appeal while in New York, Zelenskyy asked for countries to deprive Russia of revenue through sanctions and trade restrictions so Moscow is denied money to prolong the war, though the conflict has continued without a breakthrough toward ending it.
With front-line progress described as slowing more than four and a half years after Russia’s full-scale invasion, the latest reports show both sides sustaining pressure through missile and drone campaigns—at once raising the cost for civilians and underscoring the continuing diplomatic challenge of securing an end to fighting.
