Pete Crow-Armstrong’s four-RBI night sends Cubs past Braves 7-3 at Wrigley

Two innings, five runs, and a game tilted early

That inning came as soon as Peterson’s night ended. Sean Murphy brought Harris home on a fielder’s choice in the seventh, and Mike Yastrzemski followed with a two-run homer to center, trimming the deficit to 7-3. For a moment, the Braves had finally turned their baserunners into real pressure. Chicago’s bullpen did not let it spread further. Ryan Rolison covered the eighth without a run, and Ryan Zeferjahn closed the ninth scoreless, keeping Atlanta from turning one sharp inning into a full comeback push.

This result was not about one side living in total command and the other doing nothing. Both clubs put men on base. Both clubs left a lot of them there. The difference was that the Cubs did their serious damage in concentrated, game-shaping moments. They scored five times in the second and third innings, then got the insurance swing from Crow-Armstrong in the sixth, a two-run homer to right-center that restored complete breathing room after a quieter middle stretch. When a lineup produces 10 hits, five walks and only four strikeouts, it usually gives itself repeated chances to deliver exactly that kind of inning.

For Atlanta, the obvious place to improve is not mystery or mood; it is conversion. Eight hits and five walks should give a team a chance to score earlier than the seventh, and the three ground-ball double plays tell part of the story of why that did not happen. For Chicago, the sharp note beneath a strong win is the handoff after Peterson. All three Braves runs came in the first inning after the starter exited, so even on a night the Cubs controlled, the late-game bridge was less tidy than the final score suggests. Still, the defining fact remains Crow-Armstrong’s night. Four hits, four RBIs, one homer and the biggest swing of the early innings made him the clearest reason this Braves-Cubs game belonged to Chicago.
