Christian Moore’s 3-RBI night carries Angels past Mariners after Seattle’s fast start fades

The second inning gave Seattle a platform, not control

Seattle did enough early to suggest the night might belong to its lineup. Moore and Lowe kept dragging the game back toward Los Angeles

The Angels’ reply did not come from one overwhelming inning or a power display. They did it by making Seattle keep working. Josh Lowe was the table-setter all evening, scoring three times, and Moore was the finisher who made those trips count. Strikeouts weren’t Seattle’s issue; the free runners were

There is an odd shape to this box score. Seattle’s pitchers struck out 13 Angels, exactly matching the Angels’ staff strikeout total against Mariners hitters. On the surface, that should give the home side a chance to dictate the game. But the Mariners also issued six walks, hit a batter and needed 165 pitches to get through nine innings. Bryan Woo struck out eight in 5.1 innings, yet he also allowed seven hits and five runs, four of them earned. That combination explains why a strikeout-heavy night still turned into a loss.

On the other side, Los Angeles did not get a clean start from Grayson Rodriguez, but it did get steadier work once he left. Sammy Peralta covered three scoreless innings, and Ryan Watson finished his outing without allowing a run. That stretch mattered because it froze Seattle after the fifth. From that point on, the Mariners did not add to the board despite already having worked five walks on the night.

Our take: this was a more convincing Angels win than the final two-run margin first suggests. Los Angeles had obvious flaws in the game — 13 strikeouts and 18 runners left on base are not details to gloss over — but the Angels kept creating innings. Their on-base work gave Moore, Lowe and Teodosio repeated chances to affect the score, and eventually that steady pressure outran Seattle’s early power.

For Seattle, the path forward is clearer than it is comforting. The Mariners did not lose because they were overpowered at the plate; they struck out only four times. They lost because key opportunities stalled, shown by 14 runners left on base and two double plays, and because too many extra baserunners reached against the pitching staff. When a team records 13 strikeouts on the mound and still gives up six runs, the fix is less about missing more bats and more about trimming the walks, the hit batter and the inning-extending mistakes that force every lead to feel temporary.
