Kings ride late first-period turnaround and Anton Forsberg’s 24 saves past Ducks, 2-1

Forty-one seconds that changed the night

Anaheim struck first at 8:41 of the opening period when Ethan Procyszyn tipped home the Ducks’ only goal, with Judd Caulfield and Coulson Pitre earning the assists. For a while, that looked like the shape of the evening: the Ducks pressing, the Kings trying to find a cleaner answer.

Instead, Los Angeles turned the final minute of the first into the game’s defining stretch. Alex Laferriere tied it at 18:56 with a backhand finish off an Andre Lee assist. Then, just 41 seconds later, Joel Armia snapped in the winner at 19:37, with Drew Doughty and Brian Dumoulin setting it up. That was the whole scoreboard. Forsberg takes over the quiet part of the game

Once the Kings moved ahead, Anton Forsberg handled the rest. Anaheim finished with 25 shots to Los Angeles’ 19, yet only Procyszyn solved him. A 24-save night and a .960 save percentage do not need embellishment in a 2-1 result; they are the result. The Ducks had more volume, more hits, and one more power-play chance, but Forsberg made the lead hold up.

Anaheim did get contributions. Procyszyn scored, Caulfield and Pitre each collected an assist, and Sam Colangelo led Ducks skaters with five shots while Frank Vatrano and Tristan Luneau had four apiece. Lukas Dostal kept Anaheim close enough at the other end with 17 saves, but when all three goals arrive in the first period, the margin for a goaltender becomes unforgiving. Special teams that solved nothing

The easiest stat to circle afterward is the combined 0-for-11 on the power play. The Kings went 0-for-5. The Ducks went 0-for-6. In a game decided by one goal, that is not background noise; it is a central explanation for why the score stayed frozen after the first. Anaheim had the extra opportunity and could not cash it. Los Angeles gave the Ducks those chances by taking seven penalties for 14 minutes, and still escaped.

Our take: the Kings should bank the win and keep a skeptical eye on how they got it. Los Angeles earned the decisive sequence late in the first, but it also left itself very little cushion after that. Cleaner puck management would make nights like this less dependent on a goaltender posting a .960 save percentage.

Laferriere and Armia supplied the finish, but the Kings had useful work threaded through the lineup. Lee assisted on the equalizer and finished plus-2. Doughty and Dumoulin combined on the winner. Erik Haula quietly gave Los Angeles steady control at the dot with 21 faceoff wins. None of that reads like a takeover by one star; it reads like a team that found just enough hands in just enough moments.

For Anaheim, there was plenty of honest effort in the numbers. Konnor Smith delivered six hits, Ryan Poehling blocked three shots, and the Ducks as a team outhit Los Angeles 32-19. But this game kept shrinking back to the same truth: one club scored twice in 41 seconds, the other spent the next two periods trying to undo it. On a night with 44 total shots and 11 power plays, the deciding edge was not sustained offense. It was brief efficiency, then a Kings goaltender who did not blink.
