Cooper Pratt’s two RBI singles set the tone as Brewers blank Orioles 3-0

Pratt kept showing up in the big spot

The game’s most important pattern was almost plain in its simplicity. Jake Bauers kept reaching base, and Cooper Pratt twice cashed him in. Pratt’s single to left in the second inning opened the scoring, then his single to center in the seventh restored the same theme and added Milwaukee’s third run. In between, William Contreras supplied the one swing with full separation, a solo homer to left in the fourth that pushed the Brewers ahead 2-0.

Milwaukee’s offense was productive without ever looking tidy. The Brewers managed only six hits, struck out 14 times and left 15 runners on base, numbers that usually leave room for regret. But they also drew six walks, stole four bases and kept forcing Baltimore to pitch under pressure. That blend of traffic and persistence mattered more than batting average on this night, especially with Pratt going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Bauers reaching three times and scoring twice.

Young pitched well enough to matter

That is what makes Brandon Young’s line stand out. Baltimore’s starter gave the Orioles six strong innings, allowed just three hits, struck out nine and limited the damage to the Pratt single and the Contreras homer. Over 84 pitches, 58 for strikes, Young gave Baltimore exactly the kind of start that usually keeps every late inning alive.

The Orioles’ staff, taken as a whole, did far more than enough to keep the score manageable. Baltimore pitchers piled up 14 strikeouts, and after Felix Bautista surrendered the seventh-inning run in two-thirds of an inning, Grant Wolfram and Cam Sanders finished with scoreless work. The problem for Baltimore was not that the pitching line collapsed. It was that six Milwaukee walks, four stolen bases and one well-timed home run were enough because the Orioles never answered any of it.

Seven Brewers pitchers, no opening for Baltimore

Milwaukee’s shutout was not the work of one dominant ace; it was a relay executed cleanly enough to deny any sustained comeback. Jacob Misiorowski set the tone with three innings of one-hit ball and four strikeouts. From there, Antonio Senzatela, JoJo Romero, Chad Patrick, Kyle Harrison, DL Hall and Trevor Megill covered the rest. Hall’s 1.2 hitless innings helped stabilize the final turn, and the last inning disappeared quickly.

Baltimore did put men aboard, but not in a way that changed the shape of the scoreboard. The Orioles finished with four hits, all singles, plus three walks and a hit batter, yet still scored nothing and left 12 runners on base. Colton Cowser supplied two of the four hits, while Coby Mayo and Carlos Narvaez had one apiece. What never arrived was the extra-base hit that could flip an inning. The top of the order made that even harder, with Dylan Beavers, Pete Alonso and Gunnar Henderson combining to go 0-for-11.

Our take: enough edge for Milwaukee, too little force from Baltimore

Our take on Milwaukee is favorable, but not blind. Winning 3-0 on the road with a seven-pitcher shutout is a serious piece of work, and Pratt, Contreras and Bauers were the clearest difference-makers. Still, the Brewers also offered a reminder of what can bog them down. Brice Turang, Joey Ortiz and Christian Yelich combined to go 0-for-12 with 10 strikeouts, and the club stranded 15 runners while also getting caught stealing twice. The obvious next step is not wholesale change; it is sharper conversion from the middle of a lineup that created chances and too often let them sit there.

Our take on Baltimore is that the path forward starts with producing more authority from the baserunners it already found. The Orioles were not absent from the game; they had eight men reach via hit, walk or hit batter. But with no doubles, no triples and no home runs, every inning demanded multiple small successes in a row, and that is a hard way to chase even a modest deficit. Young’s nine-strikeout effort deserved more support than four singles and a .129 team average. A reasonable place to improve is at the top, where too many empty trips left Cowser and the lower half trying to build an offense almost one base at a time.
