Jose Siri and Zach Neto drove the Angels’ sequencing in 6-4 win over Mariners

An early lead built one runner at a time

Seattle found one damaging inning against him, the Raleigh homer in the fourth, but Detmers kept the rest of the game from unraveling. That mattered because the Angels bullpen had to navigate a slimmer lead than the early scoreboard suggested. Blake Weiman was tagged by Crawford’s solo shot, Ryan Watson covered 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts, and Ben Joyce worked the ninth despite two walks to finish the game.

The Mariners will look at their pitching line and see something stubbornly avoidable. Kade Anderson did not hand out a walk, yet he still gave up seven hits and five runs in 4.1 innings. Cooper Criswell followed and allowed the fifth-inning insurance that ultimately stood up as the difference. Michael Rucker and Eduard Bazardo combined for three scoreless innings after that, which at least kept Seattle within reach. Still, when an opponent scores six runs without leaving the yard, the issue is not one catastrophic pitch. It is the accumulation of hittable moments.

Our take: this was a good reminder that a lineup can win with sequencing as surely as with slug. The Angels had nine hits, only two walks and no home runs, yet they pieced together six runs by making their best at-bats arrive in the same innings. The caution for Los Angeles is in the waste around the win. Thirteen runners left on base is a heavy number in a game that finished two runs apart, and allowing three stolen bases gave Seattle extra ways to manufacture pressure even on a night when the Mariners struck out 11 times. The ninth inning added one more note of concern, with Joyce issuing two walks before closing it out. For Seattle, the path forward looks simpler and harsher: get more from the at-bats around the home runs. Julio Rodriguez, Josh Naylor and Cole Young combined to go 0-for-11, and the club’s 11 runners left on base made the Raleigh and Crawford blasts carry too much of the night. This game was close because the Mariners had punch. It was an Angels win because Los Angeles kept finding the next run before Seattle could find the next rally.
