Luke Keaschall and Kody Clemens turn early deficit into Twins’ 10-2 win over Rangers

The game flipped in one inning

Texas did enough in the opening frame to suggest a tighter night ahead. Brandon Nimmo came around on Corey Seager’s single to right, then Wyatt Langford grounded out to first to bring Josh Jung home for a 2-0 Rangers lead. That inning also gave Joe Ryan room to settle in. After the two-run first, the Twins right-hander worked six innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out eight. He needed 103 pitches to get through his outing, so it was not a cruise, but Texas never found the extra hit that would turn scattered traffic into a comeback.

Keaschall kept the line moving, Clemens supplied the hammer

Keaschall was at the center of nearly every important Minnesota surge. He finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs, and his production arrived in stages that kept extending the gap. The two-run triple in the second broke the inning wide open. The RBI double to center in the fourth made it 7-2. By then, every Rangers mistake or missed location seemed to find him, and every Minnesota rally seemed to pass through him.

Clemens gave the Twins the finishing weight. His RBI single in the fourth brought Keaschall home again, and his two-run homer to left-center in the sixth put the game fully out of reach at 10-2. Clemens ended the night 3-for-4 with three RBIs, matching Keaschall’s run production in a different style: less table-setting, more final blow.

Minnesota’s lineup was effective beyond those two names. Lewis drove in two. Kreidler scored twice and added the bunt single that pushed the Twins ahead. Bell reached twice on walks and scored despite going hitless. That mattered because this was not a one-man performance or a home-run-only outburst. The Twins produced 10 runs with 11 hits, three walks, two stolen bases and a mix of contact and power that kept the Rangers’ pitching staff from resetting the inning.

Our take: Minnesota’s variety stood out more than the score alone

A 10-2 result can read like simple domination, but this game was a little more specific than that. Minnesota did not rely on one crooked swing; it kept adding pressure in different forms. The go-ahead run came on a bunt single. The biggest hit of the night before the homer was a triple. One run scored on a wild pitch. Another came on a routine single. The final separation came with Clemens’ home run. That kind of spread makes a lineup difficult to navigate because escaping one problem does not guarantee escape from the next.

For Texas, the obvious place to look is strand rate within the game. The Rangers put 11 men on base through six hits, two walks and three hit batters, yet finished with only two runs and left 13 aboard. They also struck out 10 times and managed just one extra-base hit, a double. That points less to a failure to reach base than to a failure to cash in after the first inning. For Minnesota, the only meaningful caution in an otherwise complete win is the number of free runners it allowed. Three hit batters and two walks gave Texas more opportunities than a six-hit night usually would. Against a cleaner offense, that kind of generosity can keep a game unsettled longer than it should.

After the early punch, the Twins owned the rest

The late innings only reinforced the shape of the night. Kody Funderburk, Tommy Nance and Taylor Rogers combined for 2.1 scoreless innings out of the Minnesota bullpen, and the Rangers never mounted a serious scoring push after Ryan’s departure. On the other side, Trevor Williams gave Texas two scoreless innings in relief, but by then the important work had already been done against Jacob deGrom and Gavin Collyer.

So the defining image from this Twins-Rangers matchup is not Texas scoring first. It is Minnesota answering with six in the second and then continuing to score in the fourth and sixth until the contest looked exactly like the final line: a game where one team found its rhythm early and kept building, and the other spent eight innings trying to recover from the moment the night tipped away.
