Anaheim — The Los Angeles Angels announced Wednesday that they have declined the option in Kurt Suzuki’s contract and will search for a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season in coordination with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

The club said the decision was made by Angels Baseball Operations Consultant John Mozeliak as part of broader planning for “2027 and beyond.” The announcement states that Mozeliak held “thoughtful conversations” internally and with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment leadership about the direction of Angels Baseball.

According to the team, Suzuki will be offered the opportunity to remain with the organization in a front-office role as a Special Assistant. The club noted that Suzuki previously held that Special Assistant title from 2023–25.

In comments included with the release, Mozeliak said the conversations that took place internally and with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment shaped the team’s decision to pursue a new manager and coaching staff for 2027.

Mozeliak also addressed Suzuki’s standing within the Angels clubhouse, stating that Suzuki “earned tremendous respect” in the room and that he cares about the players. The club further states that Mozeliak does not believe the Angels’ performance this year was a true reflection of Suzuki’s abilities as a manager.

The announcement additionally thanked the current coaching staff for professionalism and hard work during what the release described as “a very difficult season,” adding that the organization has valued their expertise and offered some members of the staff positions within the organization.

Finally, the Angels said conversations with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment will continue on next steps for the organization and that additional details will be provided as they become available. No specific candidates, timelines, or names for the 2027 manager search were included in the announcement.
