Perez and Stroll react after Singapore Sprint collision ends both earlyImage accompanying the official F1 announcement.

Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll reflected on their Singapore Sprint collision after both exited the 100km race within the opening stages at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Sprint followed a delayed start caused by heavy rainfall, leaving drivers to compete in difficult conditions as the action unfolded over roughly the first lap.

The incident occurred when George Russell crashed out of the lead towards the end of the first lap, after which Stroll pulled off track further down the field. Replays indicated that Stroll collided with Perez at Turn 16, putting Stroll immediately out of the event. Perez was able to limp back to the pits, but retired as well due to damage sustained to his car.

The collision was investigated after the Sprint. When the stewards’ decision was announced, they determined that no further action was necessary, stating that “the driver of Car 18 [Stroll] took a reasonable line into the corner and therefore was not at fault.”

Before the investigation outcome was officially confirmed, Perez said he was left questioning what might have been possible given the conditions. “It was a big shame because it was a bit of an opportunity, although the race is pretty short,” the Mexican said. Perez added that he hoped the weather would improve later in the weekend and described his perspective entering Turn 16.

Perez said: “I was on the inside into Turn 16 with Lance and I wasn’t expecting him to shut the door there. When he closed the door I tried to brake, but it was just too late. I ended up locking, and there was nothing I could have done.”

Stroll, meanwhile, acknowledged he had not yet reviewed the incident. “I don’t know exactly what happened. I got hit,” the Canadian said. He was also asked about how challenging the conditions were to drive in and responded: “Not so hard, I just got hit.”
