Dallas Stars forward David Perron has signed a one-year contract worth $850,000, the NHL announced Friday. The agreement places the 38-year-old forward on a Stars roster that is still stabilizing its lineup early in the season.

Perron, an unrestricted free agent since July 1, is entering his 20th NHL season. Last year, he recorded 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists across 65 regular-season games with the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. His final stretch included three goals in 16 games with Detroit after the Red Wings acquired him in a trade on March 5.

Dallas general manager Jim Nill said the organization is excited to add Perron. In a statement attributed to Nill, the Stars’ GM described Perron as bringing a competitive mindset and a track record of producing in high-pressure moments, adding that the club expects his veteran leadership and skill set to strengthen its group as it works toward a Stanley Cup goal.

Perron’s NHL background includes being selected by the St. Louis Blues with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft. He has compiled 812 points (332 goals, 480 assists) in 1,239 regular-season games across stops including the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, Detroit Red Wings, and Ottawa Senators.

In playoff competition, the forward has totaled 64 points (26 goals, 38 assists) in 110 Stanley Cup playoff games. Perron won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019, a milestone that continues to factor into his profile as an experienced post-season performer.

The Stars’ need for roster depth has become more immediate with an injury update affecting another veteran forward. Dallas will be without Matt Duchene for three months due to core muscle surgery, according to the league’s announcement.

Following the signing, the Stars will visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The league listed the game’s broadcast partners as Prime Video and CHSN.
