PHILADELPHIA — Matvei Michkov scored twice and the Philadelphia Flyers held on for a 3-2 victory against the Colorado Avalanche at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Monday, giving the Flyers consecutive wins after they began the season with a 0-6-3 record. Philadelphia entered the game in the middle of a turnaround, having bounced back after losing its first nine games of the campaign.

According to the NHL game recap, Noel Acciari recorded his first goal of the season for the Flyers, while Trevor Zegras finished with three assists. Joseph Woll made 24 saves in goal for Philadelphia as the team improved to a season-best streak of two straight wins, following a 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Colorado received goals from Martin Necas and T.J. Hughes. The NHL recap states that Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves for the Avalanche in a game that featured several momentum swings and a critical goaltending-related challenge earlier in the contest.

Michkov opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 7:41 of the first period to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. The NHL summary describes the play as Michkov digging the puck out of the right-side corner and passing across to Zegras, whose slap pass hit Flyers forward Denver Barkey in front before returning to Michkov, who fired into an open net from below the right circle.

That opening goal remained after Colorado challenged the play for goaltender interference. The NHL recap notes the ruling stood, and Michkov added to the lead later in the second period when he scored his second goal at 12:23.

Michkov extended Philadelphia’s advantage to 2-0 at 12:23 of the second period. The sequence, as described in the NHL account, had him circling the offensive zone before scoring with a shot from above the circles that went through traffic and beat Blackwood.

Colorado responded quickly. The NHL recap reports that Necas scored just three seconds after a power play expired to make it 2-1 at 17:52. Artturi Lehkonen found Necas open above the right face-off circle, and Necas roofed a shot through traffic over Woll’s blocker.

Philadelphia pushed its lead back out to two goals in the third period when Acciari made it 3-1 at 6:34. The play was a redirection of Oliver Bonk’s slap shot from the right point, with the NHL summary crediting Acciari for the redirect and noting it was his first point in 11 games with the Flyers.

Late in the third, Colorado narrowed the gap. The NHL recap says T.J. Hughes cut the deficit to 3-2 at 14:40 of the period after Sam Malinski’s shot from the right point deflected off the stick of teammate Fedor Svechkov, landing on Hughes’ stick. Hughes then scored from the right face-off circle to pull the Avalanche within one.

Despite the late push, Philadelphia’s one-goal lead held for the final margin. With the win, the Flyers continued to build on a late-season reversal after their slow start, while the Avalanche, who also received contributions from Necas and Hughes, fell short in a closely contested, five-goal game.

At Xfinity Mobile Arena, the Flyers’ result was shaped by Michkov’s two-goal performance and key goaltending from Woll, as well as the sequence early in the game that included a Colorado challenge for goaltender interference that did not change the ruling on the power-play goal.
