One man died after Maple Ridge Fire Rescue responded to a fully involved house fire Tuesday morning near 214th Street and 123rd Avenue.
The Story
A fatal residential fire in Maple Ridge on Tuesday morning has left one man dead, according to Maple Ridge Fire Rescue (MRFR).
Crews were called to a single-family dwelling fire around 6:30 a.m. near 214th Street and 123rd Avenue, where firefighters found the home fully involved, with smoke coming through the roof, said Fire Chief Dave Samson.
Samson said firefighters worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby foliage and neighbouring houses as they tackled the fire.
He said 25 firefighters responded to the scene. The victim was located after firefighters removed a wall in one of the home’s bedrooms.
MRFR said the man was the sole occupant of the residence. Maple Ridge RCMP were requested to assist with traffic management and public safety while crews battled the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation by MRFR and the RCMP.
Samson said the BC Coroners Service is also investigating the death. Maple Ridge RCMP said no further information will be released at this time.
