Quesnel Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball winner waits 10 months to claim $46 million

A Quesnel man identified as Richard Z waited about 10 months to claim a Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot worth $46 million.

The Story

A Quesnel man identified as Richard Z, listed by the B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC) only with his last initial, waited 10 months to claim a Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot worth $46 million.

Richard said he was relaxing in his Quesnel home last December when he saw that someone who purchased a ticket in his hometown had won the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot.

He then checked his own ticket and learned he had won $46 million.

Richard told BCLC that, “The ticket was only visually validated.”

He said he checked the BCLC website and had an inkling he might have the winning ticket, adding that when it showed the Gold Ball, “the overwhelming feelings set in; knowing that out of everyone in Canada, I had the ticket that won $46 million.”

Richard said he first told his wife, and they were emotional and overwhelmed by the win.

He did not disclose why he waited so long to claim his prize, but said he and his wife have plans to travel and “move forward slowly.”

Richard said the winning ticket was purchased at Billy Barker Casino in Quesnel.

According to the BCLC, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $135 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49 so far in 2026.
