The Vancouver Canucks are set to hit home ice for the first time this season on Thursday at Rogers Arena, but some fans are approaching the start of the year with mixed feelings as hundreds of tickets remain unsold for the game.
As of Tuesday, the cheapest ticket that could be found was $150, while lower-bowl resale tickets were listed for more than $1,000.
Randip Janda, a colour commentator for the Vancouver Canucks at Kiss Radio, said the team’s leadership recognized the need for a shift after last season, when Vancouver finished last in the league.
Janda said the Sedins—co-presidents of hockey operations—and Ryan Johnson, now the Canucks’ general manager, understood the club needed younger players as it moved toward a rebuild.
Janda added that the changes are aimed at long-term development rather than immediate results, saying this year should be “a marathon” instead of a sprint to win the Stanley Cup.
JC Clemas, also known as “Nucko,” said he remains hopeful about the team’s young talent, pointing to players making progress from last season.
Clemas said he is looking for “wins in future seasons,” with development this season helping to prepare the team to be competitive later on.
