Bell Canada and Cisco sign memorandum of understanding for sovereign AI infrastructure

Bell Canada says it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Cisco to collaborate on sovereign AI infrastructure for Canadian customers.

The Story

Bell Canada and U.S. technology company Cisco say they have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on providing sovereign AI infrastructure for Canadian customers.

The companies say the agreement will make use of Cisco’s AI, networking, security and infrastructure technologies, with the goal of helping Canadian organizations deploy, secure and manage AI infrastructure in Canada.

Bell and Cisco also say the partnership is intended to give customers more flexibility in how they access and scale sovereign AI capacity.

The memorandum is part of a series of Bell announcements related to its AI and technology offerings. In June, Bell signed a deal with Cohere for Cohere to operate its large language models through Bell AI Fabric, supported by two other companies, and earlier this month Bell said it intends to quadruple the size of its planned data centre project in Saskatchewan, with expansion expected to boost capacity to 1.2 gigawatts.
