The U.S. embassy in Canada released quotes from Canadian politicians it says indicate plans to influence American politics.
The Story
The U.S. embassy in Canada has released a list of quotes from Canadian politicians that it says indicate “plans to influence American politics.”
The embassy’s list includes quotes from Industry Minister Melanie Joly, which it says appear five times in the material released today.
The quotes described in the list include context-free statements about pressuring American businesses and targeting U.S. states, tied to Canada’s response to American-imposed tariffs.
At a news conference on Parliament Hill on Wednesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney did not directly address the accusations, but said the United States initiated trade actions against Canada and that everything Canada has done since has been in the interests of Canadian workers and families.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who is also quoted in the embassy document, said he has no interest in interfering in American elections.
