Transport Canada has issued a recall for more than 48,000 Kia Seltos SUVs to address a fire risk connected to corrosion in the 4WD control unit.
The Story
Transport Canada has issued a recall covering more than 48,000 Kia Seltos vehicles in Canada over concerns about fire risk.
The recall involves certain 2026, 2025 and 2024 Kia Seltos models, and it applies only to vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive.
Transport Canada’s notice says that, on certain vehicles, the 4WD control unit located under the driver’s seat may become contaminated by a mixture of salt and moisture inside the vehicle. Over time, the notice says this can lead to corrosion that could cause a short circuit.
According to the notice, short-circuiting can lead to a fire risk even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
To reduce the risk until repair work is completed, owners are asked to park their vehicles outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures.
Owners will be notified by Kia by mail with instructions to take their vehicles to a dealership for an inspection of the 4WD control unit. The control unit and other components will be replaced as necessary, and the dealer will also install a protective cover over the 4WD unit.
