Eby urges Green voters to weigh choices as B.C. snap election nears Oct. 24

B.C. NDP leader David Eby appealed to Green voters during the final week of the province’s snap election campaign ahead of Oct. 24.

The Story

British Columbia NDP leader David Eby said Green voters should “think very carefully” about their choice as the province’s snap election, scheduled for Oct. 24, enters its final week.

Speaking while on the campaign trail, Eby said he respects Green leader Emily Lowan, but argued that Lowan “won’t be premier,” adding that votes for the Green party could result in electing a Conservative government.

Eby said the Green vote made the difference in 11 ridings in the last election between a Conservative and a New Democrat being elected, and he referenced the North Island riding where he was speaking at an unrelated campaign announcement in Campbell River, B.C.

Eby said neither his party nor himself have been perfect, and that many people are frustrated about the timing of the election.

When asked whether his appeal reflected the NDP trailing in the campaign, Eby said the only poll that matters is the one conducted on election day, and repeated that a Conservative government’s effects would “last for generations” and include harms that he said would be “impossible to undo.”
