Amazon launches Community Banana Stand at its Vancouver office, with free bananas every Wednesday

Amazon has opened a Community Banana Stand at its Vancouver office, The Post, offering free bananas every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

The Story

Amazon has launched its Community Banana Stand program at its Vancouver office, The Post, where Banistas hand out free bananas once a week.

The stand began operating on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and it is scheduled to open every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. until the supply runs out for the day.

Banistas are described as “trained community ambassadors” who aim to turn “a simple piece of fruit into a moment of delight and connection.” The post also says the team keeps dog treats for pets visiting the stand.

In remarks attributed to Natasha Hodgins, portfolio manager, Global Real Estate and Facilities, Amazon Canada, she said the program reflects Amazon’s view of “being a good neighbour” by creating “simple moments of connection” for employees, neighbours and visitors.

The program is also being rolled out in Canada in Toronto as part of a wider initiative that began with a stand in South Lake Union, Seattle, in December 2015. The Vancouver stand is described as purposefully tailored to the city, including “high-energy service.”
