Stardust roller rink era: Surrey’s last location and the chain’s start in North Vancouver

Stardust Roller Rinks began in North Vancouver in 1964 and, after closures across the region, the last Metro Vancouver location in Surrey shut down nearly a decade ago.

The Story

Before skaters took their last roll at Metro Vancouver’s only remaining Stardust location in Surrey nearly a decade ago, the chain of roller rinks reflected an era of entertainment on eight wheels.

The rink was operating under new ownership at the time, following Stardust’s shutdown in 2005, but the floor was still the same—and so were the memories built into it by generations of skaters.

The first Stardust location opened in 1964 in North Vancouver at 710 West 14th St.

With all locations eventually shuttered, Stardust celebrations have continued to be hosted around the region.
