The Vancouver Marine Careers Expo will offer free tours of Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard vessels this Saturday at North Van Shipyards.

The Vancouver Marine Careers Expo is set to take place this Saturday at North Van Shipyards, giving members of the public a chance to tour vessels operated by federal marine services and learn about marine careers and industries in the region.
The one-day, free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with representatives on site from the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Organizers say attendees will be able to tour the HMCS Max Bernays, an Arctic Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV) operated by the Canadian Navy, as well as the CCGS Sir John Franklin, an offshore fisheries and science vessel operated by the Canadian Coast Guard.
In addition to ship tours, the expo is described as including equipment demonstrations and interactive exhibits, along with opportunities to meet people working across the marine sector.
Industry partners expected to be represented include BC Ferries, HaiSea Marine, BC Coast Pilots and the Seafarers International Union of Canada, among others.
Organizers noted that visitors who plan to board the vessels should wear closed-toe shoes, as open-toe footwear is not permitted on board.
