CFL names Kilam, Maas and Pierce Coach of the Year finalists

The CFL has named Edmonton’s Mark Kilam, Montreal’s Jason Maas and B.C.’s Buck Pierce as finalists for Coach of the Year.

The Story

The CFL announced Friday that Mark Kilam of the Edmonton Elks, Jason Maas of the Montreal Alouettes and Buck Pierce of the B.C. Lions are finalists for the league’s Coach of the Year award.

Kilam led Edmonton to a 13-5 record and first place in the West after the Elks finished last in the division standings last season; it was his first season as head coach.

Maas is a finalist for the third consecutive year and won the award in 2024. This season, he guided Montreal to first place in the East Division with a league-best 14-4 record, including a 9-0 mark at home.

Pierce helped the B.C. Lions secure second place in the West with a 10-8 record in his second season leading the team.

The Football Reporters of Canada voted to determine the finalists. The Coach of the Year winner will be announced during the CFL Combine in Calgary from March 11 to 13.

Corey Mace of the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the award last year as the CFL playoffs begin Saturday, with the Toronto Argonauts hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the East semifinal before the Saskatchewan Roughriders visit B.C. in the West semifinal.
