Bo Bichette picks up $42M player option for 2027 with Mets after first season in New York

Bo Bichette has exercised his $42 million player option for 2027, keeping him under contract with the New York Mets.

The Story

Bo Bichette will remain with the New York Mets after exercising a player option that will pay him $42 million in 2027, the team said Friday.

The decision keeps Bichette from becoming a free agent. His deal with the Mets includes a $126 million, three-year agreement signed in January that features a $40 million signing bonus, a $2 million salary for 2026 and player options for 2027 and 2028.

Bichette, 28, is a two-time All-Star shortstop who moved primarily to third base in New York after Francisco Lindor took over at shortstop.

In his first season with the Mets, Bichette hit .260 with 18 home runs and 78 RBIs. The numbers were lower than his 2025 performance with the Toronto Blue Jays, when he hit .311 with 18 homers and 94 RBIs while helping the club reach the American League pennant.

Bichette batted .213 with five home runs, 28 RBIs and a .570 OPS in 61 games through June 2. He then improved, posting a .289 batting average with 13 homers, 50 RBIs and a .784 OPS in 99 games from June 3 to the end of the season.
