The RCMP says Tobin Haas was sentenced to just over one year in jail after pleading guilty to charges tied to a 2024 hit-and-run that seriously injured a BC Highway Patrol officer.
The Story
Mounties say 58-year-old Tobin Haas, of Vancouver, has been sentenced to just over one year in jail after he seriously injured an RCMP officer during a 2024 traffic stop in Delta.
In a release, the BC RCMP said that “On Feb. 17, 2024, just after 10:30 a.m., a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer stopped a grey Nissan on Highway 91 near 72 Avenue in Delta, B.C., because the driver was suspected of having an outstanding arrest warrant.” The release says the man was alone in the car at the time and sped away when asked for a driver’s licence and identification, “dragging the police officer until he was able to disengage.”
Police say the officer is still recovering from his injuries.
The RCMP says Haas pleaded guilty on March 25, 2026, to dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and driving while suspended. Along with the jail sentence, he received an additional three-year driving prohibition and a two-year probation order.
