Vancouver’s Bayside Lounge closing after 47 years as rising costs and redevelopment pressures mount

The Bayside Lounge in Vancouver’s West End will close after 47 years as the owners cite rising rental costs and redevelopment pressures.

The Story

The Bayside Lounge, a classic cocktail bar in Vancouver’s West End, is set to close after 47 years of business.

General manager Danica Walker said she was “just pure shock” when she found out the lounge was closing. She also said many people believed the business would remain open forever.

A petition has been launched to try to persuade the building’s owner to reconsider the lease agreement, with the petition citing rising rental costs and redevelopment pressures.

Creator David Millington said the goal of the petition is to show there is community interest in keeping the Bayside open so the owner will reconsider the lease.

Lounge staff have also invited people to come for one last drink and make a memory before the closure.
