The Story
The Seattle Seahawks were defeated 34-17 by the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 8 at Lumen Field, as Chicago rolled to the easy win.
Sam Darnold had a difficult night against the Bears’ defence, completing 17 of 34 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He was also sacked three times.
Seattle’s passing production was led by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who recorded six receptions on 11 targets for 118 yards and a touchdown. Aside from Smith-Njigba, the team’s other receiving contributions were described as limited in the game.
The Seahawks were also without wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for the matchup.
Seattle’s running attack struggled as Zach Charbonnet returned from injury and Jadarian Price took on rookie lead-back duties. Price and Charbonnet combined for 16 carries for 52 rushing yards.
Quenton Nelson, listed as a newcomer in Seattle’s line, was described as looking solid in his Seattle debut, with the expectation noted in the game recap that the run game could improve as Nelson settles in.
Special teams errors were another factor in the loss. The recap cited an incident involving safety Rodney Thomas after Nehemiah Pritchett downed a punt inside the five-yard line; Thomas slid in and carried the ball into the end zone, moving Chicago from deep territory to the Seahawks’ 20-yard line. Jason Myers also missed an extra point attempt and had a short field goal blocked, costing Seattle four points.
With the result, Seattle fell to 4-4 on the season.
