Canada Child Benefit payments expected for eligible families on October 20, 2026

Eligible families can receive the Canada Child Benefit next with a scheduled payment date of October 20, 2026.

The Story

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a monthly, tax-free payment that helps eligible families with the cost of raising children under age 18, and the next scheduled payment is set for October 20, 2026.

To qualify, families must live with a child under 18 and be primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of that child, and they must be residents of Canada for tax purposes.

Applicants or their spouse or common-law partner must also meet one of the following status requirements: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person (with a positive Notice of Decision from the Immigration and Refugee Board), temporary resident, or an individual registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act.

Families also need to ensure they are not applying for a foster child who is already receiving the Children’s Special Allowance (CSA), and if they have multiple children they must check eligibility for each child.

The payment amount depends on family net income, and the indexation increase is expected to be 2% in 2026 (after 2.7% in 2025), with calculations based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

For 2026, the base annual CCB benefit is listed as $8,157 for children under 6 (or $679.75 per month) and $6,883 for children aged 6 to 17 (or $573.58 per month).
