Some Government of Canada websites taken offline after a software vulnerability, Evan Solomon says

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Minister Evan Solomon says certain Government of Canada websites were taken offline as a precaution after a software vulnerability was identified.

The Story

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Minister Evan Solomon says some Government of Canada websites have been taken offline after a vulnerability was identified in the software they use.

Solomon said the shutdowns are temporary and are being carried out as a precaution to protect government systems and Canadians’ information, adding that guidance for the response came from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.

“We take this situation extremely seriously. Thank you to the cyber security teams working to protect the services Canadians rely on. Affected websites will be restored once patches are applied,” Solomon said in a post on social media.

Solomon also said the issue is global and that other governments and organizations are taking protective measures.
