Emanuel Wilson rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown as the Seattle Seahawks totalled 153 yards on the ground in their win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
The Story
Emanuel Wilson delivered his best performance as a Seahawk on Sunday, finishing with 100 rushing yards and one touchdown on 24 carries as Seattle earned a win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wilson helped drive a Seahawks rushing attack that produced 153 total rushing yards in the game, including two quarterback scrambles. In the fourth quarter, he also paced a scoring drive that ended with a 21-yard rushing touchdown.
Seattle’s head coach, Mike Macdonald, said the team had identified opportunities to improve after reviewing their self-scout tape. “I think our staff and our players did a great job this week of really identifying where we can improve,” Macdonald said. “I think when we watched our self-scout tape, like I said earlier in the week, I left those meetings more enthused with our ability to be able to run the ball. We had to be able to fix some certain things that we needed to improve on. So I think you saw the result of that, of us taking a step.”
The Seahawks’ 153 rushing yards were the second-highest total by Seattle this season. Macdonald added that Seattle will need to re-establish the progress week to week, saying, “It’s week-to-week.”
Wilson’s effort drew praise from Grey Zabel, who said, “I saw a guy that just refused to get tackled. He just kept running hard and when you got a guy like that you’re going to exert as much effort as you possibly can to make sure he succeeds. What an unbelievable guy, teammate, person and kudos to him, the work that he puts in to have a game like that is truly cool to see.”
The Seahawks had multiple backfield absences, including rookie running back Jadarian Price, who remained on injured reserve, and Zach Charbonnet, who was ruled out after an ACL injury but had practised all week as he continued his recovery.
Sunday’s game also included the return of the “Barn Yard” tush push package, with A.J. Barner used in short-yardage situations, and success on all three attempts. Darnold said the offensive line’s communication and execution reflected the team’s preparation: “Our offensive line did a great job of communicating all day and staying efficient with our calls. Again, it’s a huge credit to our plan, too, throughout the week of knowing exactly what kind of looks we were getting and practicing those a ton.”
Guard Anthony Bradford also returned in Sunday’s win. “We love running the ball,” Bradford said. “We love getting those tough, grimy yards and I’m happy that we were able to pull it off with the team tonight.”
