Uniqlo has announced it will open a new flagship store in the old Nordstrom building in downtown Vancouver early next year.

The Story

Uniqlo says it will open a new flagship store in the former Nordstrom building in downtown Vancouver early next year, adding another fashion retailer to the Pacific Centre shopping complex.

The move follows Nordstrom’s closure in 2023, when the 230,000-square-foot space was later announced to be divided into four units.

According to the plan described by Uniqlo and other retailers, Simons and Aritzia will take up two quadrants, Uniqlo will take the third, and one spot will remain vacant.

Uniqlo’s downtown Vancouver opening is also tied to the company’s 10-year anniversary of launching its first store in B.C. in Metrotown in Burnaby.

Nordstrom first occupied the prime, high-end location at Pacific Centre in 2015 as the Seattle retailer expanded northward, and its exit marked the third time a major retailer has left the large site empty after Eaton’s and Sears.

Aritzia has said its store will span four levels and that plans include a “casual yet elevated” dining concept.
