Fall conditions are taking shape in Metro Vancouver, with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) reporting a shift toward cooler weather and renewed rain chances after a stretch of sunshine.
ECCC says the region’s high temperature on Monday, Sept. 21 is expected to reach about 20°C, described in the forecast as the last official day of summer.
As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to dip. ECCC’s forecast in the report calls for highs of about 17°C on Thursday and Friday, before dropping slightly further to 16°C on Sunday.
The outlook for midweek includes a notable change: the forecast points to Wednesday bringing rain after a cold front arrives in the morning.
ECCC meteorologist Matt Albers said the cold front is expected to bring about 5 mm of rain, with some local amounts possibly reaching up to 10 mm, according to the report.
Albers also said another weak system is moving in from Washington, with scattered showers possible in the longer-range outlook.
For the weekend, the report indicates overnight lows are expected to fall into the single digits, with lows of about 9°C on Friday and Saturday.
The same report says ECCC’s temperature expectations remain consistent with Canadian Climate Normals for September in Vancouver, which show the daily average high near 19°C and overnight lows around 12°C; it also notes September averages 71.4 mm of rainfall.
With beach weather still being possible early in the week, the forecast suggests residents may want to plan for changing conditions by Wednesday and carry an umbrella for outings later in the week.
