Burger Heaven in New Westminster says its Bun-Official Burger Poll is currently neck-and-neck, with the NDP leading and the Conservatives trailing by two votes.
The Story
Burger Heaven in New Westminster is running its Bun-Official Burger Poll ahead of the upcoming provincial election, a standing tradition that has been taking place since the 1990s and is entering its 35th year.
As of Tuesday morning, patrons were able to order a “political burger” based on the party they would like to see win, with the NDP and Conservatives reported to be neck-and-neck and the Conservatives trailing behind by just two votes.
Chris Geib, the restaurant’s general manager, said half of customers are going for the party they actually want, while the other half are ordering to try something new.
Each party’s burger is designed to reflect that party’s branding, with Geib saying the NDP burger includes provolone cheese and “lots of onions to represent the unions,” while the Conservative burger features blue cheese to represent the Conservatives’ blue.
Geib said the Greens are represented by a burger wrapped in lettuce and are currently trailing in third place, while he added that Burger Heaven does not sell enough of its CentreBC and OneBC burgers for those counts to remain meaningful, calling it “a mystery for us.”
Geib said the poll has delivered one prior prediction success, saying that at the last federal election in 2025 the burger poll was “surprisingly bang on,” with the Liberals in the lead almost from the start and keeping that position to the end.
He said Mark Carney made an appearance at the New Westminster restaurant before winning the federal vote, and noted that last week BC NDP Leader David Eby made his vote count at the Bun-Official Burger Poll.
The restaurant said the Bun-Official Burger Poll will run at Burger Heaven, located at 77 10th Street in New Westminster, until Oct. 23, with the accuracy of this year’s totals set to be tested when voters go to the polls on Saturday.
