More of the constitutional questions in Alberta’s referendum have flipped to “no” as votes continue to be counted.
The Story
Edmonton — More of the constitutional questions in Alberta’s historic referendum have flipped to “no” while counting continues, according to results reported as of early on Oct. 22, 2026.
Alberta voters went to the polls on Monday and were asked 10 different questions.
The key question on separation showed about 75 per cent of votes backed staying in Canada, but it has taken longer to count votes on the nine other questions.
Early results had shown support for proposals including choosing their own judges and senators and changing the Constitution to boost provincial rights, but “no” has taken the lead as the count continued.
The “yes” side continued to lead on questions dealing with immigration, though the margins were described as tight.
