Advance voting opens Saturday in Vancouver’s October civic election as mail-ballot requests top 18,000

Advance voting for Vancouver’s October 2026 civic election begins Saturday, Oct. 3, after the city reported more than 18,000 mail-ballot requests.

The Story

Advance voting in Vancouver’s October 2026 civic election opens Saturday, Oct. 3, running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 59 locations.

The City of Vancouver said mail-ballot requests have surpassed 18,000. It also reported this volume is more than 70 per cent higher than the 10,523 mail-in ballot packages requested for the entire 2022 civic election.

After Saturday’s first day of advance polls, voters can also vote at advance locations on Wednesday, Oct. 7; Saturday, Oct. 10; and Tuesday, Oct. 13, with hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The final opportunity to vote in the civic election is on Saturday, Oct. 17, when 85 voting places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Vancouver’s civic election, voters will choose a mayor, city councillors, Vancouver Park Board commissioners, and Vancouver School Board trustees, as well as two separate plebiscites.

One plebiscite concerns a capital plan borrowing question to fund new and upgraded facilities and infrastructure.

A separate non-binding public safety plebiscite will seek voters’ views on public hard-drug use and a proposed secure medical treatment facility for people with mental health and addiction issues.

Vancouver voters are not limited to voting in their own neighbourhood, and locations and voting dates are available through the City’s online voting map.

Municipalities across British Columbia are holding civic elections on Saturday, Oct. 17, with many other communities also opening advance polls this weekend.
