Kelowna RCMP investigate kidnapping from Lower Mainland, seek white Dodge Ram Rebel truck

Kelowna RCMP say they are investigating a kidnapping in which a person taken from the Lower Mainland was held at a Kelowna-area residence.

The Story

Kelowna RCMP are investigating a kidnapping in which a person was allegedly taken from the Lower Mainland and held against their will at a residence near Sands Court and Gibbs Road East.

Police say the call came in Sept. 28 at about 11:30 p.m. Officers who arrived found the victim, who was taken to Kelowna by people unknown to them.

Kelowna RCMP allege the incident was an attempt to “exert pressure on an associate.” Police say the victim is not believed to be involved in criminal activity and may be friends with someone the kidnappers wanted to pressure.

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and is working with police agencies in the Lower Mainland to understand what transpired and why the victim was kidnapped.

Investigators describe the matter as a target incident with no risk to the public. RCMP obtained a search warrant for the residence the victim said they were held at.

The search led to one man being taken into custody and later released pending further investigation, police said. Staff Sgt. Tim Russell of Kelowna RCMP Investigative Services said the investigation is in its early stages and investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations.

RCMP say evidence indicates a newer-model white Dodge Ram Rebel pickup truck was involved. The truck was seen in the area between midnight and 2 a.m. on Sept. 28.

Anyone who saw the vehicle or has dash camera or surveillance footage is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-470-6236, referencing file 2026-63566.
