Maclean’s 2027 Canadian University Rankings put UBC, SFU, UVic and UNBC among top schools

Maclean’s 2027 Canadian University Rankings placed four B.C. universities—UBC, SFU, UVic and UNBC—among the best in Canada by category.

The Story

Maclean’s 2027 Canadian University Rankings, released with a set of performance indicators, named four universities in British Columbia across its top categories.

The ranking system evaluates schools using 15 indicators across four areas: student resources and support, student experience and success, faculty quality, and reputation. The publication says it also added four new indicators for this year: retention rate, graduation rate, research volume and research impact.

In the large-university category (30,000+ students), the University of British Columbia (UBC) ranked in the top three alongside McGill University and the University of Toronto.

For mid-size universities (10,000–30,000 students), Simon Fraser University (SFU) and the University of Victoria (UVic) were both listed in the top three, with Dalhousie University rounding out that group.

Among small universities (less than 10,000 students), the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) appeared in the top three, alongside Mount Allison University and St. Francis Xavier University.

Across all categories, B.C. universities were represented at least once through UBC, SFU, UVic and UNBC.
