Ipsos poll: BC Conservatives’ support rises to 42% as BC NDP drops to 40%

An Ipsos poll of adult British Columbians found BC Conservative support at 42 per cent and BC NDP support at 40 per cent.

The Story

Support for the BC Conservatives has increased to 42 per cent, up seven points, while support for the BC NDP has fallen to 40 per cent, down five points, according to an Ipsos poll.

The poll describes a “significantly altered political landscape” after the resignation of BC Conservative Kerry-Lynne Findlay and interim leader Lorne Doerkson stepping into the role. It also found declines in NDP Leader David Eby’s personal impression ratings.

The poll said the NDP’s lead from two weeks earlier has vanished, leaving the BC Conservatives two points ahead of a statistical tie with the BC NDP. Ipsos reported that the Conservatives gained seven points from a previous survey conducted Sept. 8 to 14, while the NDP lost five points.

Ipsos found three dominant issues for voters in British Columbia: cost of living/inflation (56 per cent), health care (39 per cent), and housing affordability and availability (31 per cent).

The poll reported that the BC Greens have 10 per cent support, followed by OneBC at three per cent, CentreBC at three per cent and other parties at two per cent. The results exclude 27 per cent of respondents who said they were undecided or expressed no preference.

The survey found that half of British Columbians say they disapprove of having an election now, while 32 per cent approve of the decision. Disapproval was higher among BC Conservative supporters (64 per cent) than among BC NDP voters (34 per cent), and higher among people aged 55 and over (59 per cent) than among those aged 18 to 34 (36 per cent).

Ipsos said its poll was conducted Sept. 25 to 29, 2026, using an online sample of 1,001 adult British Columbians sourced through the Ipsos panel and weighted by B.C. region, age, gender and education according to census proportions. Ipsos reported the poll’s credibility interval as accurate to within ±3.7 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
