The City of Coquitlam says Dewdney Trunk Road will be fully closed around the clock from Oct. 6 for approximately four months for water main work.
The Story
The City of Coquitlam says Dewdney Trunk Road between Cawthra Court and Pier Drive will be fully closed around the clock to all road users starting Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the closure expected to last approximately four months.
The road closure is part of the Metro Vancouver Dewdney Trunk Water Main Project, which will replace aging infrastructure.
The City says traffic will be detoured via Mariner Way and Barnet Highway. It also says Dewdney Trunk Road between Mariner Way and Barnet Highway will be limited to local traffic only.
Pedestrians will also be impacted, with detours planned via Dolphin Street and Mariner Way.
Metro Vancouver says it is replacing an old water main built in 1950 that has reached the end of its service life. The new water main will be about 1.6 kilometres long, running along Dewdney Trunk Road between Lougheed Highway and Pier Drive.
Metro Vancouver expects the water main construction to go into early 2027, and says it plans to start building the Cape Horn Section of the Coquitlam Water Main this fall.
The region says the Cape Horn Section is a 12-kilometre water main, with construction split into four sections, and that the Cape Horn Section is about four kilometres long, running from Westwood Street and Dewdney Trunk Road to Hickey Drive and Mariner Way.
Metro Vancouver says it is coordinating the schedules of both water mains’ construction efforts to reduce community impacts. The City also urged travellers to plan alternate routes and drive with extreme caution through the construction zone, following construction speed limits and instructions from traffic personnel.
