Vancouver civic election: advance voting starts Saturday, Oct. 3, with multiple early options

Advance voting for Vancouver’s civic election begins Saturday, Oct. 3, with voting also available on Oct. 7, Oct. 10 and Oct. 13.

The Story

Advance voting for Vancouver’s civic election starts this weekend, with voting in person open Saturday, Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city says it has received a record number of mail-in ballots, totalling more than 18,000, an increase of more than 70 per cent over the 2022 Vancouver Election total of 10,523, according to a press release.

If voters can’t make it out for the first advance voting day, there are three additional options: Wednesday, Oct. 7; Saturday, Oct. 10; and Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Civic election day is Oct. 17, with 85 voting places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To vote as of Oct. 17, voters must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, and have lived in B.C. for at least six months immediately before registration day, and live on a Vancouver property or have one registered in their name at least 30 days before the election.

The city says voters should have already received a Voter Information Card and bring it to vote for faster processing.

If a voter is not registered, they must bring two pieces of ID with an address on at least one and a signature on at least one, with acceptable examples available in the online voters guide.

Registered voters can also request to vote by mail, with the request deadline set for Oct. 5 at noon for the vote-by-mail package, and the deadline to request a ballot for pickup at the election office set for Oct. 13.

Completed ballots must be received by Oct. 17.

The city also directs voters to use Vancouver’s online guide to choose candidates, answer Capital Plan borrowing and plebiscite questions, and find voting locations with times.
