NEXUS enrolment interviews: CBSA says a two-year scheduling deadline returns on April 1, 2027

The Canada Border Services Agency says NEXUS applicants must schedule their enrolment interview within two years of conditional approval starting April 1, 2027.

The Story

Changes to the NEXUS program will take effect after April 1, 2027, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said in a press release published October 1.

CBSA said that, starting April 1, 2027, applicants must schedule their NEXUS enrolment interview within two years of receiving conditional approval.

CBSA said the two-year timeframe had been temporarily extended to five years because of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the two-year deadline is returning now that more enrolment interview capacity is available.

CBSA said the deadline applicants must meet depends on when they received conditional approval. Applicants who receive approval on or after April 1, 2027 will have two years from their conditional approval date to schedule their interview.

CBSA said those who received conditional approval before April 1, 2027 must schedule their interview within five years of their approval date, or by April 1, 2029, whichever comes first.

CBSA said conditionally approved applicants will be required to schedule an interview with both Canada Border Services Agency and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection before they can receive their NEXUS card.

CBSA said the CBSA portion of the NEXUS interview is conducted at a NEXUS enrolment centre, while the U.S. CBP portion may be completed at a CBP enrolment centre or through Enrolment on Arrival.

CBSA said NEXUS interviews include identity verification, fingerprinting, and questions from both CBSA and U.S. CBP officers.
