Health Canada issues Canada-wide recall for So Delicious dairy-free frozen dessert over foreign material risk

Health Canada has issued a Canada-wide recall for a So Delicious Dairy Free non-dairy frozen dessert product after concerns that it may contain foreign materials.

The recall affects So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert in a 500 mL package size. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the issue relates to the potential presence of plastic-like and gravel-like pieces.

So Delicious Dairy Free said the company voluntarily recalled the product “out of an abundance of caution” after identifying a potential problem with an ingredient used in the cashew inclusions.

The recall applies to specific best-before dates. Health Canada and the CFIA list the affected product as having best-before dates of Sept. 8, 2027; Oct. 15, 2027; Oct. 16, 2027; Feb. 3, 2028; Feb. 25, 2028; March 30, 2028; and March 31, 2028.

Consumers are being told not to use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product. The direction applies to the specific items and dates identified in the recall notice.

This is the second time this year that the same Salted Caramel Cluster flavour has been recalled for the same type of concern. In January, Health Canada issued a recall for the exact same reason.

At the time of publication, So Delicious Dairy Free indicated that no other flavours or products are affected.

So Delicious Dairy Free frozen desserts are commonly sold at major retailers across Canada, including Sobeys, Walmart, Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstore, meaning the recall has implications for shoppers in multiple provinces.

The company said it has identified and corrected the issue and expects to return the product to market safely.

For consumers, the key action is to check freezer stock against the listed best-before dates and to discard or otherwise stop using the affected Salted Caramel Cluster items to avoid exposure to potential foreign material.
