Salish Soils expands into Greater Vancouver, offering waste management and soil services for Lower Mainland projects

Sechelt-based Salish Soils says it is expanding into Greater Vancouver with a partner-driven model for waste management and resource recovery.

The Story

Sechelt, B.C.-based Salish Soils says it is expanding its operations into Greater Vancouver, bringing waste management, land reclamation and bulk material services to construction, landscaping, mining and land restoration projects across the region.

The company said its expansion is intended to support ongoing efforts to divert organic waste, citing a 2026 study by Tetra Tech conducted for Metro Vancouver that found compostable organic materials made up 25 per cent of the region’s garbage, up from 22 per cent in 2024.

Salish Soils says it currently handles more than 25,000 tonnes of waste each year on the Sunshine Coast, including food waste, yard debris, timber and biosolids, which it converts into compost, mulch and custom soil blends.

According to the company, the Greater Vancouver expansion will not involve building a standalone processing facility; instead, it will use a decentralized, partnership-driven network that integrates with existing regional infrastructure.

Salish Soils said waste management partners, including AJM Disposal, provide bin rentals and debris removal, while material supply partners like West Creek Farms collaborate on soil, aggregate and mulch projects.

The company also said the approach is supported by regional fleet operators to manage waste and supply bulk materials across the Lower Mainland without hauling materials back to Sechelt, aiming to reduce transportation emissions.

Salish Soils founder and CEO Aaron Joe said, “Valuable materials are still ending up in landfills when they could be put back to use. Our expansion into Greater Vancouver is about changing that. By working with local partners, we can recover valuable resources, reduce waste and stay true to our commitment to healing the land and restoring balance to local ecosystems.”

AJM Disposal CEO Matt Torgerson said, “Partnering with Salish Soils allows us to deliver dependable waste management solutions while keeping valuable organic resources in local use across the Lower Mainland. Their high-quality materials, combined with a shared dedication to sustainable waste recovery, help us offer our clients efficient, environmentally responsible alternatives that directly support a more circular economy.”

In Greater Vancouver, Salish Soils said it will offer bulk delivery of premium soil, mulch and aggregates alongside waste management services that include construction and demolition waste removal, green and wood waste removal, and disposal options for concrete, drywall and mixed debris, as well as bin rentals and project-based disposal planning and quotes.
