Temporary closures around Granville Island, Burrard Bridge and Hornby Street are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12, for the Granville Island Turkey Trot.
The Story
Drivers in Vancouver are being advised of temporary road closures and traffic disruptions around the Granville Island Turkey Trot on Monday, Oct. 12, organizers say.
The annual 10-kilometre race starts at 8:30 a.m. on Granville Island and runners travel toward False Creek and the Vancouver seawall in the morning.
Granville Island vehicle access will be closed from 8 to 9:30 a.m., and West 1st Avenue and Creekside Drive—between Burrard Street and Creekside Drive—will be closed to vehicle access from 8 to 9:45 a.m.
On Burrard Bridge, northbound vehicle traffic will be closed from 8 to 9:45 a.m.
Hornby Street, between Pacific Street and Beach Avenue, will be closed to vehicle access from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m., and vehicles will not be able to cross Beach Avenue at Hornby Street during the race.
Organizers say drivers should use caution in affected areas, follow posted signage and directions from traffic control personnel, and consider alternate routes during closure hours.
For parking and transportation, participants and visitors are encouraged to arrive early, and free parking across Granville Island is available until 1:00 p.m., subject to availability. Organizers also point people travelling from downtown to the #50 South False Creek bus departing from Granville Street and West Georgia Street, and those coming from the east to the #15 Olympic Village Station southbound bus departing from Cambie Street and Broadway. They note that Aquabus and False Creek Ferries provide frequent passenger service around False Creek and that race bibs may be used for a race-day discount. For people arriving by bicycle, Granville Island Turkey Trot organizers say there are several routes, including along the seawall, and that free bike valet parking will be available near Performance Works close to the event expo and start line.
