The Story
The Vancouver Police Department says a 45-year-old woman died after she was hit by a vehicle while walking across a marked crosswalk at Main Street and National Avenue.
Police said the crash happened just after midnight Sunday and involved an SUV travelling southbound.
The VPD said the victim was thrown approximately 30 metres.
Police stated the woman suffered significant injuries, that resuscitation measures were performed, and that she was pronounced dead at the scene just before 1 a.m.
The VPD said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
Police said alcohol and substance use are not believed to be factors in the incident.
The VPD said the incident is under investigation.
Police also noted that last week, a seven-year-old girl was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in the Grandview-Woodland area of East Vancouver, and police said she was later released with minor injuries.
