Seahawks acquire All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson from Colts in trade, pending physical

The Seahawks acquired eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts in a trade pending a physical.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts in a deal that is pending a physical, the team announced Tuesday.

The trade sends a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder to the Colts in exchange for Nelson.

Seattle’s acquisition comes two weeks before the NFL’s trade deadline.

Nelson entered the league as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 draft and has been the Colts’ starting left guard since his rookie season. He was named first-team All-Pro in each of his first three seasons, and he has been selected second-team All-Pro three times, including each of the past two seasons.

The guard has earned Pro-Bowl honors in each of his eight seasons, making him one of two offensive linemen in league history—along with Hall of Fame tackle Joe Thomas—to be named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons.

The Seahawks also highlighted Nelson’s durability, saying he has started every game over the past nine seasons aside from four games he missed in 2021 due to an ankle injury.

This season, Nelson has not allowed a sack in 275 pass-block snaps and is allowing a 2.2 percent pressure rate, according to Pro Football Reference.

In remarks shared from Nelson’s time in Indianapolis, Colts teammate Braden Smith—who played with Nelson from 2018 to 2025—said, “Since day one, he's really been a culture-setter… Sometimes guys try to fake it, but this is all genuine. He just brings it every day, he has a really positive attitude, just a great guy to be around, a great teammate.” Smith added that Nelson “just really, truly loves every guy in this locker room.”

While the Seahawks are giving up multiple draft picks, they are projected to receive multiple compensatory picks in next year’s draft after losing Boye Mafe, Kenneth Walker III, Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant in free agency, as well as a third-round compensatory pick from Nolan Teasley leaving to become general manager of the Vikings.
