Air Canada to permanently end Vancouver–Singapore non-stop route on Jan. 26, 2027

Air Canada says it will permanently suspend its non-stop Vancouver–Singapore route effective January 26, 2027.

The Story

Air Canada says it is permanently ending its direct, non-stop flights between Vancouver International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport.

The airline confirmed the service will be permanently suspended effective January 26, 2027, after what it said were efforts that did not meet business targets needed to keep the route sustainable.

Air Canada said, “Despite significant efforts and resources invested in the Vancouver-Singapore route for close to three years by Air Canada and other partners, the route regrettably did not meet the business targets that would enable this service to remain sustainable,” adding that the decision reflected factors including demand, fuel costs and the flying distance.

The airline said the Vancouver-to-Singapore trip is about 17 hours, while the return trip is slightly shorter at approximately 14 hours due to wind direction, and that the substantial fuel requirements of the lengthier journeys make the flights less efficient.

Air Canada said it chose an end date “far enough into the future to protect the majority of our customers,” and said it would keep the route operating until the new year.

The Vancouver–Singapore non-stop service launched on April 3, 2024, with four weekly flights in each direction using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Air Canada said its decision means it will no longer offer Canada’s only direct, non-stop service to Singapore, though it said it will continue selling flights to Singapore through partner connections as part of Star Alliance.

The airline said it plans to redeploy the fleet and resources from the Singapore route to other Asian destinations, including a new year-round route between Vancouver and Guangzhou, China, beginning May 4, 2027, with three weekly flights using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

It also pointed to a recently announced expanded air transport agreement with Vietnam that would allow each country’s airlines up to 14 weekly passenger flights and seven weekly cargo-only flights, and said Air Canada has publicly confirmed it intends to launch a route to Ho Chi Minh City in 2027, pending final government approvals and preparations.
